Even if you don’t have a teen yet, the time is coming! I tried to make sure I kept up with all the “new” things kids were doing as my daughter grew into her teen years. Some of these things kids do are down right horrifying. I don’t know where they come up with the ideas, or why they think doing some of them are safe. I want to address one of those things on here today.
Do you know what Eyeballing is? Have you ever hear of it? Is it something that was done when you were younger and I just don’t realize it?
The basics of Eyeballing: Inserting vodka into the eye. They typically just take a bottle of vodka and lift it straight up to the eyeball. It is said that you can get drunk faster on less alcohol.
The dangers: Eyeballing has been known to burn the cornea, causing some kids to go blind. Alcohol poisoning is also a great risk since it doesn’t take as much alcohol to get drunk.
I ask what happened to the days of having a bonfire and drinking? Is that still wrong? Yes! It is safer tho. I always promised my daughter that if she went to a party and got drunk she could call me for a ride home. No questions asked. I wouldn’t yell, I wouldn’t punish her, just go pick her up and bring her home safely. Thankfully she never went to a party, and she never needed to call me and ask for a ride. I made sure she knew I would rather her call me for a ride home, than get into a car with someone who had been drinking. I didn’t want her to be afraid of getting in trouble and taking the risk of riding with someone impaired.
There are many more dangerous things that children get into and experiment with and I will be discussing other topics on future posts.
